Nominal and Effective Interest Rates – An Overview

The term “nominal” has dual meanings in the financial realm. It can exist in two dichotomies: a) Nominal versus real interest b) Nominal versus effective interest. In economics, the nominal rate (NR) is what exists before adjustments are made for inflation. The result of that adjustment would be real interest.
